Borkou is a préfecture of Chad, one of 22 and the largest, covering about 249,000 square kilometres — 20% of the country. It lies in the north. It lies wholly within the tropics. It borders Barh El Gazel, Batha, Ennedi, Kanem, Tibesti and Wadi Fira.
