San Salvador is a department of El Salvador, one of 14 and the 13th largest, covering about 909 square kilometres — 4% of the country. It lies wholly within the tropics. It borders Cabañas, Chalatenango, Cuscatlán, La Libertad, La Paz, San Vicente and Santa Ana.
