Asyut is a governorate of Egypt, one of 27 and the 20th largest, covering about 2,590 square kilometres — under 1% of the country. It borders Al Bahr al Ahmar, Al Minya, Al Wadi at Jadid and Suhaj. The Nile runs through it.
